Rocket Ryan NY turkeyI just got home to Montana after working a PBR Enterprise tour in Glens Falls, NY. Glens Falls is sort of my hometown, my rodeo hometown at least! I grew up there and started my rodeo career at the Painted Pony Championship Rodeo. The Painted Pony is now owned by my good friend Shawn Graham and not only did Shawn bring some great bulls to the event, but he also housed everyone’s bulls for the weekend, ran the bucking chutes, helped with production and his wife, Shana, carried the flag in our opening… six months pregnant! I’m very happy for Shawn and Shana and what they’ve built the Painted Pony into. It was a fun event with a lot of my old friends and almost my entire family in attendance. Since it was also Turkey season in New York, I stayed an extra week to chase birds with my Dad and also my buddy Sal and his dad, Big Sal. I haven’t hunted Turkeys in NY since I moved to Montana almost a decade ago and I wanted to kill one with my bow. This is really difficult on Eastern birds due to the hunting pressure and the wariness of these Turkeys compared to Merriam’s. We had a couple pretty good days at Sal’s with Big Sal calling in a bird that I smoked at 37 yards while Little Sal filmed. We then switched places and spun around while four more birds came to the call and Little Sal put one down for a really fun double! I’m home for about ten days then I fly out to do two PBR events; one in Lexington, KY and one in Providence, RI. Spring is here and summer is right around the corner!

Rocket Ryan - MSU RodeoI worked the Montana State University Spring Rodeo this past weekend. Coach Mike True and the Rodeo Team work hard to put on probably the best college rodeo in the region. We had record attendance and I had a good time being a part of the event. I even wore a Bobcat football jersey Saturday night to show were my loyalty was! Al Sandvold and Loyd Ketchum fought bulls all weekend and Vance Ruff announced. The event went well and it was pretty nice to work four perfs of rodeo and still sleep in my own bed every night! Well Jim and are off on what we are calling a three state Turkey Bonanza! We leave here and hit Wyoming, South Dakota and come back through Eastern Montana bow hunting turkeys for a future webisode at www.outbackoutdoors.net. Hopefully we don’t get any more winter storms! Next stop for me is a PBR in Glens Falls, NY!

Well, I’m back in Bozeman after flying to Columbia, South Carolina for an Enterprise Tour PBR produced by George Marshall and Feld Entertainment. My good friend Matt West was the announcer and, as we always do, we had fun. We got to meet some great PBR fans and on Saturday night Matt and I hung out with some soldiers who were going through a Drill Sergeant program in Columbia. It was really an honor for us to spend time with these men and women who by doing what they do every day, allow us to do what we do. I know I for one don’t take for granted the freedoms we have in this country and it’s nice to get a reminder every now and then by spending time with the folks who make that possible. I want to thank Chris Rankin from Superbull Entertainment and Nate and Susanne from Feld for everything this weekend. I’m gearing up for the annual Montana State University Spring Rodeo here in Bozeman next weekend! If you’re around be sure to come out, it’s a great rodeo and the college team works hard to put it on… Go Bobcats!

Hi everyone and welcome to my new website! I have updated all of my pictures and information and gave my site a fresh look; I need to thank Collin Cottrell (www.cottrelldesign.com) for all the help. I have even included a video page and will be keeping everything updated regularly this time around, keep checking back as I will be posting news from the road every week or so.

I just returned from Valley City, North Dakota and my first Pro Rodeo of the year. I spent the last two months at home working hard on the launch of our webisodes at www.outbackoutdoors.net so I was ready to get on the road. I traveled from Bozeman with my good friend and NFR bullfighter Al Sandvold and we made a stop in Miles City to pick up World Champion Loyd Ketchum. It was an honor to work with these two guys as they are two of the best bullfighters in the country as well as my friends. Davie Kimm handled the announcing duties in Valley City and we got along great. We had three shows in two days and then we were back on the road home. The North Dakota Winter Show is a good rodeo and we had a lot of fun. My super fans from Fergus Falls, MN were in attendance and were loud and rowdy as usual! I want to thank Paula, Penny and Kim for coming over and for all the great pictures. I was home for a week and now I fly to Columbia, South Carolina for a PBR Enterprise Tour event. I am hoping it will be warmer there! Check out my new site and drop me an email to let me know how you like it! Please keep checking back and stay in touch, 2009 is going to be an exciting year for Rocket Ryan and I hope you all will join me!
